Emmett Tatter, lead singer of Battery Acid, whispers (almost growls) into the microphone, Everybody listen up or you might get screwed up... Zach, his twin brother, stands next to him leaning apathetically against an amplifier, playing bass -- very cool, no emotion -- juxtaposed to Emmett's increasing intensity. By the end of the song, the blonde singer is jumping around onstage screaming uncontrollably. At age twelve, Emmett and Zach Tatter are two of the youngest and most promising rock acts in the Southeast. Battery Acid's lineup also includes 16-year old brother Jordan on guitar and 30-year old drummer Erik Tinker. Their dad Scott is the sound engineer for KORN, obviously providing an enviable studio for them to record their songs. I ask Emmett about the recent music festival in St. Augustine. He grins. "Yeah, supposedly we would've won the prize for best performance, except I yelled 'FAGGOT!!!' really loud at the end of 'Listen Up', and I guess we sort of offended some people." Battery Acid's first album, self-titled, was released in November 2001. Zach and Emmett Tatter, Battery Acid photographed by Ned Schenck in St. Augustine, FL |
