The images in this collection of portraits somehow blur the lines between documentary and fiction. As a visual artist, I prefer to play the role of detached observer, peering in from the outside into the urban backdrop of the East Village; a magic world of reckless Downtown subculture -- skaters, punks, club kids, squatters, hustlers, heroin addicts, musicians, artists. I think there's an emotional center in the work, and I attempt to reveal a story with these images without giving away too much...
